Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.
Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.

Mia Chavez, Chino: Chavez captured the Division 3 girls individual title at the CIF Southern Section Championships meet at Mt. San Antonio College, as she completed the course in a time of 17 minutes, 36.1 seconds. Chavez won the Division 3 race by 6.3 seconds and posted the 12th-fastest time across all divisions. It is the third individual CIF-SS title for Chavez in the calendar year. She won the Division 2 titles in the 800- and 1,600-meter races at the track and field championships in June.
Omamoke Okah, Oaks Christian: The 6-foot-3 center has been the anchor to the Lions’ 4-0 start this season. The standout junior tallied 11 points and nine rebounds in a 54-35 win over Simi Valley before having 14 points and 19 rebounds in a 61-47 victory over the Daily News’ fourth-ranked team, Chaminade.
Camille Lindsay, Long Beach Poly: The two-time Moore League champion finished 10th in the Division 1 race at the CIF Southern Section Championships at Mt. San Antonio College. She advanced to Saturday’s CIF State Championships meet in Fresno. Lindsay completed Mt. SAC’s three-hill course in 18 minutes, 11.4 seconds, more than a minute faster than her time in the previous weekend’s prelims.
Madison Watts, Mary Star: Watts picked up where she left off last season. In three games last week, she averaged 26 points as the Stars advanced in the Santiago Tournament. Watts had 29 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks in a 57-45 win over Santiago.
Leigh Chien, University: Chien shot a 3-under-par 68 and won the CIF State individual championship in a one-hole playoff at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach. She birded the par-5 playoff hole.
Ashley Yun, Walnut: Yun concluded a terrific season with a second-place finish at the CIF State Championships at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach. Yun lost a playoff for first place to Leigh Chien of University High of Irvine after both finished the round at 3-under par. A week earlier, Yun won the CIF-SS Division 1 individual crown while helping her team to the Division 1 title.
