Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles becomes a wondrous ice skating holiday

Pershing Square hosted the opening of its holiday ice skating rink and a tree-lighting ceremony this week with remarks from local dignitaries, on-ice performances, entertainment and more. The operators of the skating rink call it “the hottest place to chill during the holidays.” And that means that we’ve entered a new season of outdoor ice skating “in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.”

Those who went to the Christmas Tree-lighting ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 21 saw figure skater Yaroslav Panio’s dramatic performance for the crowd and enjoyed the Los Angeles Ice Theater skaters.

Those who try it out say that skating on the ice with the city’s skyscrapers around them is more than worth the drive. And every age and ability is welcomed, even if a small child has never skated before.

According to the operators, ice skating sessions are 60 minutes long and the hours and times vary by day. General admission is $20 — and the price includes skate rental. The skating rink will be open through January 12, 2025.
