The NFL’s oldest and most storied rivalry exists in the NFC North Division, where the hatred between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers refuses to die. Even in a time where the Packers have dominated their midwestern counterpart for the better part of three decades, the players, fans and even coaches on both sides are never shy about sharing how they feel about one another.
Over the last year, it’s been Bears quarterback Caleb Williams who has taken on the responsibility of dousing this rivalry with gasoline. Predictably, the Packers had a lighter ready and were quick to hit back at Chicago’s young QB recently.
But on July 15, it was Bears safety Jaquan Brisker who entered the chat and took a flamethrower to the whole situation like he was Rick Dalton trying to fend off the Manson family.

Concussions Remain The Concern for Jaquan Brisker
Brisker is entering his fourth season with the Bears, so he’s had a few go-rounds against the Packers already. In his 35 career games in Chicago, Brisker has flashed superstar potential on a handful of occasions. He’s a fantastic tackler in the open field who can lay the lumber, so to speak, on opposing ball-carriers like few defensive backs in the league can. But it’s this propensity for on-field violence that has been the biggest bugaboo for Brisker thus far in his short career.
In each of his three previous seasons in the NFL, Brisker has missed time due to head injury. It kept him out of a total of four games in his first two seasons, but the former Penn State star missed 12 games during the 2024 campaign thanks to an extended stay in concussion protocol.
Jaquan Brisker Envisions ‘Swiss Army Knife’ Role
If Jaquan Brisker manages to remain healthy, there’s a world in which he’s considered one of the league’s premier safeties by the end of the 2025 season. The talent is absolutely there, and when he’s been healthy, so has the production.
But perhaps the strongest case for a Brisker breakout lies in the opportunities expected to be created for Brisker, who can be moved around the defense like the proverbial Queen on the chessboard, in the scheme crafted by new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.
“(I want to) show my versatility. Show that I’m a Swiss Army Knife,” Brisker told ESPN’s Courtney Cronin on July 14. “He (Dennis Allen) moves pieces around, we run so many different things, and we can make it all look the same, or vice versa, things like that, that’s what I love about it. DA, he’s smart. I know that he is going to put us in the right positions. It’s going to be smooth.”
