San Leandro man arrested on vehicle theft charges after leading police on multicounty pursuit, ending in San Francisco

Police have arrested a San Leandro resident on multiple vehicle theft and drug charges after he led law enforcement officials on a chase that spanned multiple counties before ending in San Francisco.

The San Mateo Police Department had initially opened an investigation on July 15 in response to a report of a vehicle theft in the 400 block of N. Idaho St. That same night, authorities took several reports about the same possible suspect committing other burglaries in the area.

The following day, police located the 30-year-old suspect’s vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but a chase ensued, prompting the involvement of multiple law enforcement agencies, including air support.

After the suspect fled his vehicle on foot, authorities were able to take him into custody on charges of vehicle theft, vehicle tampering, petty theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
