Just when fans thought the wait for Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” was finally nearing an end, Sony has made a surprise move that is already shaking up the 2027 summer box office. The highly anticipated trilogy finale has been hit with another scheduling change, and while the delay is relatively small, it could have a big impact on how the final chapter lands.
Buzz began building after insiders confirmed a revised release plan designed to give the animated blockbuster its best shot at dominating theaters. It is a calculated move by the studio, showing just how much is riding on the success of Miles Morales’ biggest adventure yet.
According to Variety, the new date moves the film from its original June 4, 2027 release to June 25, 2027, pushing it deeper into the heart of summer movie season. The timing may be intentional, positioning the film to draw maximum crowds and close out the Spider-Verse trilogy on a high note.
“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” Faced Multiple Delays Before 2027 Date Was Set

This isn’t the first time “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” has been delayed. The film was originally scheduled for a March 2024 release but was postponed indefinitely due to production setbacks, including the impact of industry-wide strikes in 2023. Fans spent over a year awaiting an update on the filmâs status before Sony settled on the 2027 window. The long delay was attributed to the filmâs complex animation process and the creative teamâs commitment to maintaining the visual and emotional standards set by the previous entries.
“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” follows the Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (2018) and the critically acclaimed “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (2023). The first film earned over 384 million dollars worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Its sequel expanded the universe and brought in more than 690 million dollars globally while earning another Oscar nomination.
The trilogy follows Miles Morales, a Brooklyn teenager turned web-slinging hero, as he navigates an ever-expanding multiverse of alternate Spider-people. According to Phil Lord, who spoke at CinemaCon in March, the upcoming film will begin with Miles on the run, hunted by his fellow Spiders as he tries to protect the people he loves.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller Return for “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”
The creative duo behind the franchise, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, return as producers and co-writers for “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.” They co-wrote the script alongside David Callaham. Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson will direct, while producers include Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh. Executive producers are Aditya Sood and Christina Steinberg, with Jessica Berri serving as co-producer.
The final installment is expected to wrap up major plotlines introduced across the first two films, with high emotional stakes and multiversal consequences. With fan demand stronger than ever, Sonyâs decision to delay the release just a few weeks may only build more anticipation for what could be the studioâs biggest animated release yet.
The core voice cast from the previous films returns for the trilogy finale. Shameik Moore is back as Miles Morales, and “Sinners” actress Hailee Steinfeld reprises her role as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman. Joining them are Jason Schwartzman, returning as Dr. Jonathan Ohnn (The Spot), and Karan Soni back as Pavitr Prabhakar, also known as Spider-Man India. Jharrel Jerome also returns as the Earth-42 version of Miles G. Morales, known as The Prowler.
