Itâs officially the season of iconic sequels, and fans are loving it! From “The Devil Wears Prada” to “Practical Magic”, Hollywoodâs most beloved characters are stepping back into the spotlight, and the excitement is real. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock light up the set of “Practical Magic 2” as filming begins, casting a spell on fans everywhere.
Getty ImagesOn Friday, July 18, Kidman shared a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram from the first day of filming, where she and Bullock reprise their roles as the Owens sisters from the beloved 1998 fantasy romance.
âThe witches are back ⨠Owens sistersâ first day on set! #PracticalMagic,â Kidman captioned the clip.

Returning Faces Bring the Magic Back
In addition to Kidman, 58, and Bullock, 60, original cast members Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are returning to their roots in the magical world. Channing, 81, reprises her role as Frances âFrannyâ Owensâthe no-nonsense matriarch of the Owens family.
While Wiest, 77, returns as the warm and wise Bridget âJetâ Owens.
According to the official release, both characters are described as âthe eccentric and wise matriarchs who taught the Owens sisters everything they know about magic, mischief, and self-reliance.â
New Cast Members Join the Spellbinding Sequel
Joining the star-studded cast are several new faces. Joey King plays Sallyâs daughter, while Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod round out the ensemble.
The filmâs script comes from a collaboration between ‘Practical Magic’s original screenwriter, Akiva Goldsman, and “Succession” writer Georgia Pritchett. Production is now underway.
Honoring the Heart of the Original
While plot details remain under wraps, producer Denise Di Novi confirmed that Practical Magic 2 aims to capture the same spirit that made the original a cult favorite.
âI think the big mistake people make with sequels is when they kind of want to reinvent the wheel and be totally original,â Di Novi told People magazine in 2024.
She continued, âThereâs a joyousness to that movie, and such beautiful themes of sisterhood, family, and acceptance. Itâs magical, and we really want to honor all of that.â
The original “Practical Magic”, released in 1998, followed two sisters grappling with a centuries-old family curse that doomed Owens women never to find lasting love. Directed by Griffin Dunne, the film was adapted from the first novel in Alice Hoffmanâs beloved series.
“Practical Magic 2” is set to hit theaters on September 18, 2026.
