A man was shot and killed by two El Paso County sheriff’s deputies in a neighborhood near Security-Widefield late Friday after he attacked them and managed to get one of their Tasers, officials said.
Deputies were called to a home in the 6500 block of Tranters Creek Way at 11:32 p.m. when someone reported a disturbance involving a gun, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The deputies found a gun in the driveway and made contact with a man and woman inside the home. When they detained the man, he “became physically aggressive toward deputies and obtained control of a deputy’s Taser,” sheriff’s officials said.
“The suspect deployed the Taser, and a fight ensued,” agency officials said.
Two deputies fired their guns at least once, hitting the man. They started medical care until Security Fire medics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputies were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and both are on paid administrative leave.
The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating the shooting.
