Police are appealing for information after a woman in her 30s was sexually assaulted on the street in London.

It is understood that a man in his 20s followed her as she walked past Hammersmith Underground station, in west London, at around 3.40am on May 18.

Once he caught up with her, he is said to have sexually assaulted her before running towards Hammersmith Broadway.

The suspect is described as white with dark hair, approximately 5ft 8in to 6ft tall and wearing a black North Face jacket, black trousers and white trainers.

Using CCTV footage, officers tracked the man’s movements ahead of the alleged attack. He was captured walking along King Street and past another pedestrian.

The victim filed a report and police launched an immediate investigation. She is receiving support from specialist officers.

Detective Superintendent, Lucy O’Connor, who is leading the Met’s investigation, said: ‘Women and girls should be safe to walk the streets of London without being attacked.

‘That is why we need to identify a man in connection with this incident and are now asking the public to help.’

Police have appealed for any members of the public who were in the area on the morning on Sunday May 18 – or any who may recognise the man in the footage – to get in contact.
