While James Van Der Beek is battling stage 3 colorectal cancer, he’s still enjoying life with his family. That includes dressing up for Halloween.
In a photo posted to Instagram by James’ wife, Kimberly, the parents pose with five out of their six children. The couple shares daughters Olivia, Annabel, Emilia and Gwendolyn, and sons Joshua and Jeremiah.
The kids can be seen in costumes ranging from the Statue of Liberty to Rumi from “KPop Demon Hunters.” Kimberly appears to be a cute cat while James dressed up as the Phantom of the Opera.
In the caption, Kimberly wrote, “Happy Halloween!!!!”
Fans Loved the Family’s Halloween Costumes

That’s not to mention the person who wrote a comment, saying, “You all look TERRIFIC!!! Love seeing James as the Phantom of the Opera, it is my ALL TIME FAVORITE!! â¤ï¸ Happy Halloween to all of you ð”
James Has ‘Got A Lot to Live For’
James seems to have a lovely family life and that’s something he’s grateful for. That’s also why he felt it was important to tell his children about his cancer diagnosis.
âIâm far from an expert, but our approach was just be as honest as possible, as honest to the degree of their understanding, right?â he said in July while chatting with Today. “Because they know. They can sense that Dadâs having a tough day. They know if Dadâs in pain. They know, and so by not telling them I think youâre confusing them even more.”
“And just allow yourself to be surprised by their resiliency,” he continued. “When you tell them what youâre doing, and you tell them the approach, they can see it and they can feel it, and I think itâs also your journey is their journey.”
He added, “Donât rob them of the opportunity for them to show up for you, emotionally. I have kids making me tea. ‘Dad, what do you need?’ Thereâs been a lot of beauty thatâs come out of it…”
Beyond that, while talking to People in November, James explained, “Iâve really been so blessed with my wife and kids. Iâve got a lot to live for, and itâs a beautiful life.”
