Two people were arrested early Monday morning after leading Adams County sheriff’s deputies on a chase down Interstate 25, according to the department.
The chase stemmed from an incident outside the scene of a double fatal house fire that had sparked the day before, killing two people and a dog, Adams County Sgt. Shea Haney said.
An Adams County sheriff’s deputy was stationed at the scene of the fire for “crime scene security” in his personal car early Monday morning. While parked outside the house, his passenger window shattered, Haney said.
Other deputies responded to the scene in the 800 block of Bronco Road shortly after 5:30 a.m. Monday and chased the suspect vehicle onto I-25, Haney said.
The car crashed on the highway, and two unidentified people inside were taken into custody, Haney said. It’s unclear where and when the crash happened.
Investigators have not yet confirmed what caused the window to shatter, but a pellet gun was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle after the police chase, Haney said.
The fatal fire at the house that the Adams County deputy was stationed outside of sparked at about 1:50 a.m. Sunday, according to the fire department.
By the time Adams County Fire Rescue crews arrived, the back of the house was fully engulfed and the flames had spread inward. The two people who died in the fire will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
The Monday morning window shattering is not believed to be connected to the fire, but the circumstances of both incidents remain under investigation, Haney said.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
