The Seattle Seahawks are playing excellent football right now. Seattle sits atop the NFC standings at 7-2, and its Super Bowl odds are top five in the NFL.
Through nine games, these Seahawks are doing something that has never been done in the 50-year history of the franchise.
Four of Seattle’s seven wins have come by 14 points or more, and as a result, it has a +103-point differential through nine games. Only the 8-2 Indianapolis Colts have a higher point differential (+115).
Why is that significant? Because the Seahawks have never been this dominant at this point in the season, and they’ve done better than some of the all-time great Seahawks teams.
The Seahawks Are Beating Teams in Historic Fashion
If a Seahawks team is getting mentioned with the 2013 team and the 2005 team, then they are doing something special.
This Seattle squad is blowing out its opposition at an even higher clip than those teams.
After the Seahawks 44-22 beatdown over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10, Seahawks reporter Brian Nemhauser compared their +103-point differential to some of the best Seattle teams of the past. The results were eye-opening.
One would expect that the 2013 Seahawks would have the highest mark midway through the season. After all, that team was loaded with talent and won the Super Bowl after posting the best defense in the league.
But their point differential is a whopping 20 points behind this 2025 squad. Interestingly enough, +83 was also the point differential for the 2005 Seahawks through nine games. That team didn’t end up holding the Lombardi Trophy like its 2013 counterparts, although the officiating in Super Bowl XL may have played a role in that.
Regardless, it is incredibly impressive that this Seattle team is outpacing the great ’05 and ’13 teams in point differential by such a wide margin.
Those championship-level squads are actually tied for third in point differential through nine games. Second place goes to the 1984 Seahawks that finished 12-4 and wound up losing in the divisional round.
No matter how you slice it, the 2025 Seahawks are not to be taken lightly.
What Makes This Seahawks Team So Good?
Surpassing the century mark in point differential doesn’t happen by accident, folks.
Seattle is the most complete team in the NFL. Its offense is third in the NFL in scoring (30.6 points per game), while the defense is fifth in points allowed (19.1 PPG). The Seahawks get after the quarterback, too, as their 32.0 sacks are tied for second in the league.
Their one weakness appeared to be fixed against the Cardinals. Seattle had struggled to run the ball efficiently before playing Arizona, then it racked up 198 rushing yards on 4.3 yards per carry.
Add in the lethal connection between Sam Darnold and NFL receiving yards leader Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and you can see why the Seahawks are blowing teams out of the water.
The advanced stats also back up Seattle’s historic point differential. DVOA, which measures a team’s efficiency compared to the league average, has the Seahawks number one overall. Moreover, this Seattle team ranks eighth all-time in DVOA through nine games.
Who knows how the Seahawks season will end, but their level of dominance to this point suggests great things ahead.
