After their recent 24-10 loss to the Clemson Tigers, the Florida State Seminoles are now 4-5 on the season, and a dreaded 1-5 in ACC play. This bad start is also on the heels of a 2024 season where Florida State went 2-10.
Many fans are starting to question when Mike Norvell will be relieved of his duties as head football coach. However, Norvell doesn’t seem too worried about the current status of this Florida State football team, but instead believes that a National Championship is on the horizon for his program.

FSU’s Mike Norvell Believes Seminoles Will Hoist Trophy Soon
This is a bizarre thing to say when you may be in jeopardy of getting fired, and are 6-15 as the head football coach dating back to the start of last season.
However, following the loss to Clemson, Mike Norvell had this to say about Florida State’s future, courtesy of ESPN’s Andrea Adelson:
“I’m fully aware the outside narrative around our team is not good, around me is probably not good. That’s fine,” Norvell said. “That will not affect the job that I’m going to show up and do. I’m going to pour everything I have to this team with a championship expectation.”
It has recently been announced by FSU’s AD that Mike Norvell’s status will likely be assessed following the season, but Norvell is still confident in his coaching ability.

“I’ve actually won a championship, and we’re going to do it again. We’re going to do it here. That might piss people off. So be it. They’ll be celebrating when we’re hoisting a trophy, and it will be the belief that I see from our players, the belief that I see from our coaches, the talent that I know that our players have, and the guys that are coming to be a part of this.”
Is Mike Norvell Right to Have These Aspirations?
While the past two seasons have been rough for Mike Norvell and Florida State’s fan base, you have to remember Norvell was able to lead a Seminole team to an ACC title in what was the four-team College Football Playoff era.
While some FSU fans are calling for Norvell’s job, he did have back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2023 and 2024. He’s 37-32 as head coach of the Seminoles.
When asked about his future on Monday, Norvell really opened up about his passion for the football program and his confidence level in the future as a whole. Fans should also remember that when Norvell took over, Florida State was at a low point.
It may feel at a low point once again, which isn’t long removed from a near-chance at a National Championship. Norvell also felt as if he had fixed the program once when he took over in 2020, and could do so again.
