Apple launch £219.95 ‘iPhone Pocket’ but people think it’s just an iPod sock

Is it 2004 again? This accessory looks strangely familiar… except… no, that price can’t be right for an iPod sock!
Apple has launched a new knitted bag which they want you to shell out over £200 for.
The ‘iPhone pocket’ is designed to carry your phone around, either slung across the body or just dangled from your wrist.
It ‘speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use, according to Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director of its creators Miyake Design Studio.
‘iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way.’

You may not feel so joyful when looking at your bank balance though, after spending £139.95 for the short strap design, or £219.95 for the cross body version.
Some couldn’t help but be reminded of the iPod sock, however, which had a much more reasonable price point of $29 for a pack of them.
And while police have been busy smashing phone theft rings in London, you probably still wouldn’t want to risk sporting one of these around the West End.

If that hasn’t put you off though, the special edition release goes on sale from Friday, and comes in lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black.
The new little bag was created by the Issey Miyake design studio, inspired by the concept of ‘a piece of cloth’, which means it does not have seams and is made from just one piece of fabric.
Issey Miyake has a long history with Apple, as the Japanese designer made the turtleneck jumpers beloved by Steve Jobs.
