The New York Yankees are expected to make moves during MLB free agency, but the question is who the club will pursue. There are plenty of rumors about potential options for the Yankees.
New York is listed among the favorites in the odds to land several star free agents. Could the Yankees turn to an NL contender in order to bolster the team’s hitting?
The Yankees are a close second in the odds to land Philadelphia Phillies star Kyle Schwarber at +300, per BetOnline. Just ahead of the Yankees are the Cincinnati Reds as the favorite to sign Schwarber at +250.
Let’s explore Schwarber’s potential fit with the Yankees.
Phillies DH Kyle Schwarber’s Market Value Is Projected To Be a 4-Year, $99 Million Contract in MLB Free Agency
The odds are based on where players would sign if the stars were to leave their current team. There is a good chance Philadelphia does not let Schwarber get out of the clubhouse.
Yet, there will be plenty of competition for Schwarber, who is coming off career-high numbers with 56 home runs, 132 RBI and 145 hits in 162 games during the 2025 season. Schwarber’s play earned the slugger his third All-Star nomination.
The MLB All-Star Game MVP just completed a four-year, $79 million contract. Spotrac projects Schwarber’s market value is a four-year, $99.6 million deal.
Could the Yankees Get Into a Battle With the Mets to Land Kyle Schwarber?
There is another New York team that could also have an interest in Schwarber. Just behind the Yankees in the odds to land Schwarber are the Mets at +400. Sports Illustrated’s Will Laws and Nick Selbe predict Schwarber will sign with the Mets.
“Over the past four seasons, only Aaron Judge has hit more than Schwarber’s 187 home runs,” Laws and Selbe wrote in a November 7, 2025, story titled, “MLB Free Agent Rankings and Signing Predictions.” “The veteran slugger has posted nearly every day during that span, missing just 21 games since 2022.
“Schwarber is comfortably in the DH-only phase of his career, and players at the bottom of the defensive spectrum have had to take some financial hits in free agency in recent years. If those teams believe Schwarber can maintain his status as one of the league’s best hitters for the medium-term future, then he’ll more than justify a nine-figure commitment.”
Phillies Star Kyle Schwarber Is Expected to Sign a New Contract Sooner Rather Than Later Amid MLB Rumors
Despite buzz about the Yankees and Mets, it would still be an upset if Schwarber does not re-sign with the Phillies. Fans can expect Schwarber to make a decision sooner rather than later, per MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
“My theory is this, from talking to people around the industry, that if we do see one significant bat sign early that it could be Kyle Schwarber,” Morosi noted on November 10, per MLB.com. “Here’s why: To me, his market is more defined than the [other top free agents].
“… There are just more moving parts to some of the other [position-player free agents], whereas with Schwarber, it is so clear what his role is. It is so clear what his value to the Phillies is.”
