Girl, 17, stabbed to death in front of her mum at family home

There is a large emergency services presence in a residential street in a Welsh town after reports of a serious incident in the early hours of this morning. Two air ambulances landed in Wheatley Place in Cefn Fforest, Blackwood, at around 7.30am on November 13. Emergency services issued advanced critical care support and police, including a crime scene investigations unit, remain at the scene.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a girl of 17 was stabbed to death in an attack which also left her mum severely injured.

Police were called to the victims’ home in Cefn Forest, south Wales, shortly after 7am on Thursday morning.

Neighbours were awoken by sirens, helicopters and banging doors when squads – including firearms officers – arrived at the scene.

The girl was found lying in a pool of blood and was pronounced dead at the scene, while her mother, who is 38, was taken to hospital.

The suspect, from nearby Newbridge, is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Detective Superintendent Philip O’Connell, the senior investigating officer, said: ‘We can confirm that weÕre not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident after making this arrest earlier.

‘We understand that reports of this nature can be concerning, and it is likely that residents will see an increased number of officers in the area while we carry out further enquires.

‘If anyone has any information, please speak to our officers or contact us in the usual way.’
