The Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing off in a marquee matchup in week 11 of the NFL season. Quarterbacks Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield are playing a little bit of grab-ass with each other ahead of what should be one of the games of the week.
Allen met with the media on Wednesday, and was quickly asked to respond to a Mayfield quip from earlier this week. Mayfield jokingly said he needed a walkie-talkie to talk to Allen because he’s so tall and that he needs gloves to win in cold weather because he has small hands.
“That’s crazy,” Allen said with a smile. “Baker wears two gloves golfing, so he’s that type of guy.”
As two MVP candidates, Allen and Mayfield are both known for their fiery competitiveness, and that pokes through even in innocent comments in the media. Clearly the two have a ton of respect for each other, but that doesn’t mean they’re above a little light-hearted trash talk.
Allen Praises Mayfield’s Play This Season
After Allen delivered a couple of digs into Mayfield, he had nothing but praise for his friend and counterpart.
“I love the guy, he’s awesome,” Allen said. “How his career has progressed and the adversity he’s fought through. He’s playing some really, really dang good football right now, I’m a big fan of his. Anytime I get to watch games, I’m watching what he does because he’s very fun to watch.”
Allen was then asked if he had confidence that Mayfield would find success after his shortcomings in Cleveland.
“I don’t think it matters what anybody thinks, [Mayfield] was extremely confident,” Allen said. “I’ve always thought he’s an absolute baller and he’s proved that time and time again from the college level until now. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league.”
Mayfield has indeed shown baller tendencies this season in Tampa Bay as he has his team sitting at 6-3 despite a plethora of injuries to impact offensive weapons.
Fans are in for a treat as Allen and Mayfield face-off in Buffalo this weekend in what has become almost a must-win game for both teams.
Bills and Bucs Both Looking to Avenge Week 10 Losses
Neither Allen or Mayfield are happy with their results in week 10, as the Bills were upended by a bad Miami Dolphins team 30-13 while the Bucs fell to New England 28-23.
Allen had his worst game of the season against the Dolphins, throwing an interception and losing a fumble as the entire offense was held in check by Miami. Meanwhile in Tampa Bay, Mayfield had a good game against the Patriots as he threw for three touchdowns, but he was outmatched by New England’s Drake Maye led offense.
While it’s not a “must-win” for either team in the sense of making the playoffs, both are looking to get right after losses and with good teams awaiting in week 12.
Buffalo is favored by 5.5 points in what will be a chilly day in Buffalo. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. in northern New York.
