Mentor Rama, 36, was named locally as the man who collapsed after undergoing both hair transplant and dental work

A man has died after receiving a hair transplant in Turkey, according to reports.

Mentor Rama, 36, was named locally as the British citizen of Albanian nationality, who died after receiving a hair transplant and dental treatment in Istanbul.

A police investigation has been launched.

Local reports say he stayed in a hotel in Şişli close to where he had a hair transplant at a clinic.

The next day, he had dental treatment before collapsing at his hotel.

He was taken to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead at around 4.30pm on November 11.

After an autopsy, the body was taken by his family and returned to his home country.

Brits regularly fly to Turkey where hair transplants can cost as little as £1,500, a cut price deal compared to £10,000 in the United Kingdom.

In August another British man died after travelling for a hair transplant in Turkey.

The 38-year-old had the procedure at a private clinic called CINIK in Istanbul’s Besiktas area and he became unwell after the surgery, according to Turkish outlet OdaTV.

However, the clinic has told Metro that the patient became unwell ‘unexpectedly’before the hair transplant procedure began during the ‘preparatory phase’ rather than during the operation.

Surgeons in the country perform around 60% of the world’s hair transplants.

An estimated 150,000 Britons travelled to the country in 2022 for cosmetic procedures, and medical tourism brings more than £2 billion to Turkey’s economy.
