Jack Della Maddalena and Islam Makhachev will face off in a welterweight title fight at UFC 322. The event takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday.
Della Maddalena enters the main event looking to prove the oddsmakers wrong. It marks his first welterweight title defense. He defeated Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision at UFC 315 in May to become champion.
Meanwhile, Makhachev hopes to make history and further cement his legacy in the sport. He earned a dominant 1st round submission win over Renato Moicano at UFC 311 in January to retain his lightweight championship.
The Dagestani then vacated his lightweight championship to move up and challenge Della Maddalena. Before vacating, Makhachev set a new record for most successful lightweight title defenses in UFC history. His decision to move up came when Muhammad, who he made a vow never to fight, lost his title.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Makhachev enters as the -290 favorite. This comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering he is moving up from 155-pounds to 170-pounds. A $20 wager on the Dagestani to capture the title would yield a total payout of $26.90.
Della Maddalena, the current champion, sits at +215. A $20 wager on him retaining his title would return $63.
