Matheus Cunha saw the funny side after an Arsenal supporter asked him when he would be leaving Manchester United for the Gunners.

United signed Cunha in a £62.5 million deal from Wolves in the summer transfer window and the 26-year-old has quickly established himself as a key figure in Ruben Amorim’s new-look attack.

Arsenal had also made a move for Cunha in the summer but Mikel Arteta opted to strengthen his attacking options with the signings of Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze.

Cunha is currently in London with Brazil’s national side are they prepare to play Senegal in a friendly at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

And while staying at a hotel with his Brazil teammates, Cunha was approached by an Arsenal supporter.

Speaking this week, Rio Ferdinand believes the confidence that Cunha and fellow summer signing Bryan Mbeumo have brought to United has been key to their recent run of form.

‘I think a huge thing has been the acquisition of Cunha and Mbeumo because they are really very good, first of all, football guys in terms of loving football,’ Ferdinand said.

‘They’re tactically very astute, and they have a real good confidence that they brought to the squad that is really, I think, feeding through the team.’
