Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders isn’t thinking about his own stats when he starts for the second-straight game.
Sanders will remain the Browns’ starting quarterback on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Ahead of his second NFL start, while at his family’s Thanksgiving, Sanders said ‘the win’ is the only thing that matters to him and not his own stats.
Shilo Sanders: “Please help him throw for 500 passing yards.”
Shedeur: “The win is most important.”
Mom: “Well, we want your passing yards… Run in some touchdowns.”
Shedeur: “The win.”
It’s a clear message from Sanders as he wants to help the Browns win football games and is not focused on his own stats. So, instead of throwing for 500+ yards or rushing for touchdowns, he’d rather the Browns win on Sunday.
Browns fans will also like Sanders’ comments, as he’s putting his own personal stats behind helping Cleveland win football games, which is also what he did last week.
Shedeur Sanders is ‘Very Committed’ to Getting Better
Sanders is getting his second-straight week with the first-team at practice, which should help him again Sunday.
After another good week of practice, Stefanski said Sanders is very committed to getting better.
“I wouldn’t say a difference. Very committed to working at it. Doing a great job, communicating with his coaches, with the players,” Stefanski said on Friday. “Good work week, but nothing different. I think any player though, once you get one game under your belt, you got the next one coming. I think it can only help.”
However, the weather could be a factor on Sunday, as snow and wind are expected in the forecast. Yet, Stefanski has faith Sanders’ arm will be able to handle it, especially given the fact he played college football at Colorado.
“Yeah, he played in Colorado. That’s a lot of wind that you’re going to get. You’re going to get all sorts of weather. So he’s good to go,” Stefanski added.
Sanders went 11-of-20 for 209 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception in his first NFL start last week.
Browns OC Praises Sanders
Although Dillon Gabriel has cleared concussion protocol, the Browns are sticking with Sanders at quarterback.
After another week of practice, Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees said he’s pleased with what he’s seen from Sanders, as he wants to learn from his first start.
“There’s a lot of great learning opportunities out there. And, then there’s a lot of plays that he made that helped our offense and helped us score enough points to win the game. But, again, we’re really doubling down on how can we be process oriented, not get too caught up in a result of a win or a loss and just focus on every time you come in on a Monday, there’s going to be a bunch of plays that you want to correct,” Rees said on Friday.
“It’s just usually easier to correct when you win than when you lose, so our focus is there on continuing to improve. I think Shedeur’s done a really nice job this week of continuing to prep and really starting to hone in on the things we’re asking of him and excited for another opportunity.”
The Browns are 5.5-point underdogs against the 49ers.
