NFL Comes Down Hard on Ravens Edge Rusher Dre’Mont Jones

The NFL didn’t let Baltimore Ravens edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones get away from its GameDay Accountability Team, hitting the veteran with a hefty fine for his actions in a Week 12 win over the New York Jets.

Jones was on the NFL’s naught list on Saturday, November 29, with the league fining him $14,055 for unsportmanlike conduct in the fourth quarter of a 23-10 win for a “violent gesture”

The infraction was pretty dicey at best in terms of whether or not Jones should have been fined — it appears he caught the NFL’s ire for making a slashing gesture near his throat but it wasn’t the famed “slit throat” that NBA players made popular in the 1990s.

You be the judge: “Ravens OLB Dre’Mont Jones was fined $14,055 for this apparently ‘violent gesture’ after a sack late in the Week 12 win vs. the Jets,” The Baltimore Banner’s Jonas Shaffer wrote on his official X account.

Jones was acquired in a trade with the Tennessee Titans on November 3 — one day ahead of the NFL trade deadline — in exchange for a conditional 2026 fifth round pick.

“Being able to slide Dre’Mont Jones inside on pass downs and has been the difference maker after losing Nnamdi Madubuike,” Ravens.com’s Cole Jackson wrote on his official X account on November 24. “As much as I have issues with Eric DeCosta’s OL construction, can’t say too much negative about his deadline acquisitions. Dre Jones has been an impact player.”

Jones Had Breakout Game Against Jets

Jones had 1.5 sacks against the Jets — his first sacks in a Ravens uniform — and he has 6.0 sacks this season between the Titans and Jets.

Jones came to Baltimore already playing some of the best football of his career.

“Sources: The #Ravens are trading for #Titans edge DreMont Jones, sending a conditional 5th rounder that could possibly become a fourth-rounder,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on his official X account on Monday, November 3. “More defensive help in Baltimore from a player whose had 4.5 sacks in the last four games.”

“DreMont Jones has been an incredible pickup for the Ravens,” Locked on Ravens podcast host Kevin Oestreicher wrote on his official X account on November 23.

“DreMont Jones with his second big play for the Ravens on 3rd down to get the defense off the field,” Sports Illustrated’s Joshua Reed wrote on X during the game against the Jets. “The first was a batted pass at the line of scrimmage. This trade continues to payoff major dividends.”

Ravens Have Season Defining Stretch Coming Up

The Ravens saw their 5-game winning streak come to an end in a Week 13 Thanksgiving Day loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. While the loss dropped the Ravens to 6-6 overall, the most important games of the year are still coming up.

Baltimore has a murderer’s row of games to close out the final 5 games of the regular season. That includes another game against the Bengals in Week 15 and 2 games against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 14 and Week 18.

They also have games against playoff teams in the New England Patriots in Week 16 and Green Bay Packers in Week 17.
