The Atlanta Braves are in the midst of a very important offseason. They’ve already made a few moves, like re-signing closer Raisel Iglesias and trading for Mauricio Dubon. However, more will need to be done if the Braves hope to return to the MLB playoffs.
Some of the Braves’ biggest needs are depth starters, a Designated Hitter if Marcell Ozuna walks in free agency, and a shortstop. Recently, MLB insider Ken Ronsenthal outlined some of the Braves’ offseason wishlist on the show Fair Territory.

Trading for Mauricio Dubón Makes Braves Infield Plans Interesting
After the Braves traded Mauricio Dubón, it raises some questions as to what the Braves’ infield plan may be.
Here is what Rosental said on Fair Territory about Atlanta’s possible offseason plan:
âPerfect world? They (the Braves) get another shortstop,â Rosenthal said. âItâs just going to be difficult to do that. As I wrote last week, we talked about this on Fair and Foul Territory. Mauricio Dubon is a floor for them. He is at least a guy that can cover the position if they do not get someone else, and the problem is, outside of Ha-Seong Kim, there really isnât a quality shortstop available.”

The next issue within the Braves’ front office is how much they will spend in free agency. Alex Anthopoulos has made it clear this offseason will be different than last year’s, but a course of action still needs to be taken. Especially in the National League with other big spenders like the Mets, Dodgers, and Giants.
As for the shortstop position in free agency, the market is so thin. The Braves’ best option would be to hopefully re-sign Ha-Seong Kim and roll with him for the 2026 season. His upside is greater than Dubón’s.
At this moment, unless the Braves offer Bo Bichette north of $200 million, he’s likely to sign elsewhere.

Braves Also Need a Designated Hitter
The next course of action for Atlanta is figuring out what to do with the DH position. This is arguably more important because the offensive production of a DH can be so important to a ballclub.
Marcell Ozuna is currently a free agent and had a not-so-great end to the 2025 season. Ken Rosenthal believes the Braves might end up spending more money at the DH position to find a more valuable bat:
âIn the end, to get more offense, they might end up spending on the DH spot more so than the shortstop spot,â said Rosenthal. âDH has been occupied for them the last couple of years by Marcell Ozuna. Marcell Ozuna is a guy who has been productive â highly productive at times for the Braves, not so productive last year.”
As MLB’s winter meetings are approaching in early December, the Braves remain one of the most interesting teams to follow in baseball to see how aggressive they are.
