Los Alamitos Race Course plans to resume horse racing Sunday evening after canceling its Saturday-night card because of the crisis involving a malfunctioning chemical storage tank in nearby Garden Grove.
In an announcement late Sunday morning, the track said its eight races for quarter horses and thoroughbreds would begin as scheduled at 5:45 p.m.
“We’re continuing to monitor the incident at the aerospace facility in Garden Grove,” Los Alamitos management said on the social media site X.
Los Alamitos, in Cypress, Calif., is less than four miles from GKN Aerospace, the facility where crews have been working since Friday on an overheating storage tank in danger of exploding or cracking. Evacuations were ordered in surrounding areas.
