It was Father’s Day on Sunday, and all over the world, sons and daughters paid tribute to the men who helped raise them.
Of course, for many families the celebrating was done from afar out of necessity.
Take the Giudices, of Real Housewives of New Jersey fame, for example.
It’s been over six months since Joe Giudice was deported after serving time on tax fraud charges.
While there are certainly worse punishments than spending the remainder of one’s days in sunny italy, Joe is reportedly tormented by the separation from his four beloved daughters.
On Sunday, Joe’s ex-wife, Teresa Giudice, posted a loving tribute to her girls’ distant dad.
“Happy Fathers Day @joe.giudice The girls miss you today & everyday!” Teresa captioned the photo above.
Seems innocent enough — albeit a bit blurry — but Instagram being Instagram, it wasn’t long before the pic attracted the attention of a random hater.
“Failed father, two of the four will end up on the pole no doubt,” the troll commented.
“Please remove yourself off Teresa[‘s] page! Although, Pole dancing is [a] respectful job!” Giudice replied.
“My girls have chosen different career paths momma @twresagiudice got it under control!! We going for 4/4 success on point! #daughtersonpoint #mydaughterssuccess #motivatedmindset.”
We applaud Joe for standing up to this clown without disparaging sex workers.
But at the same time, Joe definitely dignified this clownery with a far more detailed response than it deserved.
Discussing your 10-year-old’s “career path” with a stranger on the internet would be weird under any circumstances, but it’s downright bizarre in this case.
And don’t get us started on the “#daughtersonpoint” hashtag.
Anyway, Joe’s heart was in the right place, and we can’t imagine his frustration at being forced to live thousands of miles away from his girls while they endure bullying and abuse on the internet.
Fortunately, if its his daughters’ career success that Joe is worried about, it looks like he can breathe easy.
The girls are all still in school, but insiders say they’re all performing well academically.
Oldest daughter Gia is currently attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where she’s said to be adjusting well to life on campus.
While it’s safe to say children of reality stars rarely experience “normal” upbringings, things have been particularly rough for Joe and Teresa’s daughters.
The Giudices were both imprisoned for tax fraud in recent years, but they were permitted to serve their sentences back-to-back so that their kids wouldn’t be forced to enter foster care.
After his release, Joe — who never became an American citizen, despite living in the country for most of his life — was deported to Italy.
It’s unclear if or when he’ll ever be able to return to the States, even for a visit.
Needless to say, social media is crucial to Joe’s relationship to his daughters these days — and he clearly won’t be standing idly by while strangers hurl insults at his girls.
