Jay Roach’s ‘The Roses’ Is a Great Choice – Rated R
Nowadays, many people wait for movies released in theaters to arrive on streaming platforms. This may have been the case for “The Roses,” but now Hulu subscribers have access to it. The film, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman, is a dark comedy that centers around a wealthy couple whose marriage devolves into an all-out war.
“The Roses” boasts fairly impressive reviews from critics despite not being showered with praise. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 64 percent rating, making it “certified fresh.” The audience has been kinder to it, with a 79 percent rating. It premiered on Hulu in October, after debuting in theaters in August.Â
One critic said of “The Roses,” “Colman and Cumberbatch are sublimely well matched. We adore them as a couple almost as much as we enjoy them as the bitterest of foes.”

‘Anyone But You’ Is Also a Solid Option for Rom-Com Fans – Rated R
Hulu has all sorts of movies, but one of its most popular genres is rom-coms. Of course, there are always the classics, but a recent option is 2023’s “Anyone But You,” which stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney. The movie is about a couple who have a great first date, only for things to go south later. After that, they end up at a destination wedding together.
It has a 53 percent rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it’s important to note that rom-coms, much like horror films, often have lower scores from critics. Audiences gave “Anyone But You” an 87 percent.
Regarding reviews, one critic said, “This frothy dose of sun, sand, and beautiful people may not be for everyone, but itâs definitely for me.” Someone else wrote, “Glen Powell continues to prove that he has ‘it.’”
Many would agree that “Anyone But You” is a solid option for a watch on Hulu, even if you’ve seen it before.
Justin Kurzel’s ‘The Order’- Rated R
Another solid option for people searching for movies on Hulu is 2024’s “The Order.” Starring Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, and Jurnee Smollett, the film follows an FBI agent who attempts to take down a terrorist group in the 1980s.
In terms of reviews, critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 93 percent rating, while audiences have it at an 89 percent rating. One critic said, “The Order is a fearless look at the evil men have done and continue to do to prove themselves time and again. This is one of the decadeâs great films made about the state of the nation, featuring powerhouse performances from Law and Hoult.”
Another one wrote, “Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult deliver fantastic performances in The Order, a film that simultaneously breaks our hearts and fills it with terror over and over again.”
