’30 Rock’ Comedian Grizz Chapman’s Years-Long Health Battle
While no official cause of death has been disclosed yet, Chapman’s cousin, Donte ‘Hammer’ Harrison, claimed on social media that he died in his sleep after years of “fighting illness.
“Life gave my cousin Grizz Chapman some heavy battles, but he fought them with strength and dignity until the very end,” Harrison wrote on Instagram. “A lot of people knew him as the sitcom star from 30 Rock, but we knew the man behind the screen. A good heart, good energy, and somebody who made an impact in this life.”
He continued, “After years of fighting illness and dialysis, he passed peacefully in his sleep on May 22nd, 2026. I’m thankful we got time to reconnect 2 months before his passing. Rest easy, cousin. Your name and legacy will live on forever.”
In 2010, Chapman underwent a kidney transplant during his run on “30 Rock.” At the time, the actor was reportedly undergoing dialysis three times a week.
Chapman was diagnosed with hypertension and discovered he had kidney disease years later.
In 2009, the actor announced that he needed a transplant. “I’m a little nervous about the process,” Chapman told CBS at the time. “But I’m definitely willing and able.”
When asked about his wish, Chapman responded, “I wanna stay alive.”
