British rock icon Sir Mick Jagger has hinted that 13 years after the Rolling Stones delivered a ‘flawless’ show, they could return to Glastonbury.

The music legend, 82, best known as the frontman for one of the biggest rock bands of all time, alongside Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, is currently promoting the launch of the group’s latest album, Foreign Tongues.

It’s been two years since the Paint It Black singers have been on tour, with reports that a possible tour in 2025 was scrapped after logistical issues.

But, with hopes that the band will return to touring sooner or later, the musician was asked whether their live shows could include a Glastonbury performance.

The large-scale music festival is in a fallow year, meaning it will now return next summer with plenty of names already in the mix to ascend the main stages.

And now, it seems Sir Mick has thrown his hat in the ring for the Rolling Stones to return to the Pyramid Stage in a blaze of glory, even if he isn’t a fan of the Glastonbury set-up.

When asked by NME if he would be keen to make a comeback, he said: ‘It’s a difficult gig to do… the stage is very odd. It’s so disjointed, and you’re so far away from everyone. We normally have a 50-feet walkway, and we only had 10 [at Glastonbury].

‘I mean it is great when you look up the hill and you see everyone, it’s fantastic. There’s no doubt about it.’

So, despite the less-than-ideal conditions, he conceded: ‘Do I wanna do it again? Oh, I’ll say yes.’

No surprise, especially as he had fond memories of enjoying the festival before the big headline gig.

‘I’m so glad I did it, I loved doing it. It was a great event, all my family and all my kids always go to Glastonbury, all the stories about Glastonbury “Lost Weekends”

‘I’m so glad I went, I went the day before and had a great time, hung out with my kids, we went all over the place.’

It came alongside an admission that it’s unlikely any shows will be happening this year but he ‘hopes to do some next year for the Stones’.

‘Keith couldn’t commit, and he wasn’t feeling so great about touring and everything,’ he explained.

If the Rolling Stones were to return to the Pyramid Stage, they would have a high bar to live up to after their widely-praised 2013 performance (a show that was four decades in the making).

The two-and-a-half-hour set, filled with classics like Jumping Jack Flash, Gimme Shelter and Sympathy for the Devil, totally blew fans away, with the rock band living up to their name.

As for who we could expect to headline next year, the latest superstar frontrunner comes in the form of Hips Don’t Lie singer, Shakira.

She last played on a Glastonbury stage in 2010, and according to The Sun, recently said: ‘It’s such an iconic place to perform. I’d love to go back to England and perform at Glastonbury.

‘That would be like the cherry on top for this amazing year I’ve been having.’
