81-year-old Minecraft grandma says it was ‘kinda fun’ being swatted

YouTuber Sue Jacquot has been the victim of a swatting as her home was raided by armed police during a Minecraft livestream.

Earlier this year, we reported on Sue Jacquot, an 81-year-old grandma in Arizona who had gone viral for her Minecraft YouTube videos, which she used to raise money for her grandson’s cancer treatment.

While her grandson is currently cancer-free, Jacquot has continued to regularly make gaming videos (even branching out to other games like Fortnite) to help pay for the medical bills.

She’s currently running a livestream that won’t end until she beats Minecraft (at the time of writing, she’s been live for over 16 days), but she’s also been the latest victim of a swatting incident… not that she seems particularly bothered by it.

As a reminder, swatting is when someone falsely reports a serious crime in order to send the police to another person’s home. Several Twitch streamers and celebrities have been subjected to this and have had to contend with armed police showing up on their doorstep.

Not only can this be emotionally distressing, but it also risks resulting in innocent people being seriously injured. One victim was shot in the face and chest by police with plastic bullets, and the two men responsible for the swatting were handed prison sentences.

Thankfully, Jacquot is unscathed and in a follow-up video to discuss the incident, she’s surprisingly relaxed about the experience, even describing it as ‘kinda fun.’

The incident occurred while she was in bed asleep, but since her Minecraft stream was still live, viewers could see the moment police came into her house, armed and carrying torches.

Her home was also surrounded by no less than 20 police cars, five SWAT cars, and multiple drones. And yet Jacquot took the whole thing in stride, even complimenting how beautiful one of the policewomen was.

‘I was asleep, I did not want to get up, and these policemen came in the door,’ she explains, ‘I didn’t know what was going on, but it was kinda fun. … I got to ride in a police car. I’ve never ridden in a police car before. Then it was all over, so I thought ‘Well, I’ve gotta go to bed’, so I took an ibuprofen and went to bed.’

Commenters on the video have expressed relief that Jacquot wasn’t injured as well as hope that the person responsible is caught.

‘This genuinely angers me to my core. People are actually evil,’ says hxrmy.

‘This is not okay, there needs to be consequences,’ says crimson9273.

‘I hope they find whoever did this. Law Enforcement tend to take swatting very seriously,’ says bobjoe3492.

Regardless, the Minecraft stream continues as normal. Jacquot is currently away, but she’s set it up so viewers can take control of the game and play until she comes back.

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe for her grandson’s medical bills has accrued over $105,890 (about £78,903) out of a target of $250,000 (about £186,275).
