Simu Liu sent fans into a frenzy after being spotted serving samples at a local Costco.
On Thursday, the “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” actor operated the stand for the modern Chinese food brand MìLà at the Danville Costco.
Liu, who is also the company’s chief content officer, personally served samples of pork, chicken, and shrimp soup dumplings. He also posed for photos with fans and even signed some autographs.
“It’s just an incredible opportunity to give back to the community,” Liu told ABC 7 News. “You know, Jen and I were able to find somebody who already had MìLà in their shopping carts so we kind of surprised them and were able to pay for their groceries, which was really amazing.”
What’s Next for Simu Liu?
Liu, who is famous for his role as Shang-Chi, recently spoke about his future in the Marvel universe. Speaking with ComicBook, the Canadian actor admitted that he’s committed to being Shang-Chi for the long haul.
“I would keep doing (Shang-Chi sequels) as long as I as I physically could,” Liu said.
Liu also talked about how working with his fellow Marvel actors has shaped him. He noted that the idea of “stepping into their characters, who theyâve owned and honed and developed for so long” made him want to do his best.
“But the thought that kind of powers me is this: youâve still got to show up and youâve got to try your best,” he told the outlet. “Try your best to get something usable in there and get out of your own way.”
Liu’s latest project, an animated adventure comedy “In Your Dreams,” premiered in theaters on November 7 and will be released on Netflix on Friday.
Liu Shares His Thoughts on AI Replacing Actors
Meanwhile, Liu made it clear he’s not on board with using AI as a replacement for actors, particularly background performers.
The actor took to X in October and shared his comment on Kevin O’Leary’s suggestion of using AI extras instead of humans to save money.
“Sure, blame the extras making 15-22 dollars an hour struggling to make a living and not above the line people making multiple millions,” Liu wrote.
Speaking with Deadline, Liu pointed out that the idea of using AI as a replacement for actors is “really tone deaf and out of touch.”
“This idea of replacing actors with AI, itâs so antithetical to my development as an actor,” he added. “I think if I was able to learn from that experience, then how many other people are doing the same? In depriving the world of background actors, youâre also depriving people the opportunity to kind of pick up these skills.”
