One of the worst, and shortest, Silent Hill games is being released physically for the first time, but with an alarming high price tag.
Between the Silent Hill 2 remake and last year’s Silent Hill f, the franchise is definitely on a winning streak at the moment, but it was quite the opposite story prior to 2024.
Before those two titles, we were subject to Silent Hill: Ascension – an interactive TV series littered with gross microtransactions, that may genuinely be the worst game of the generation. After that came Silent Hill: The Short Message, a two-hour first person title which, while free, was neither scary nor entertaining.
Silent Hill: The Short Message is still available for free on the PlayStation Store, but if you’d rather pay actual money for a physical copy, then Limited Run Games has you covered.
A deluxe edition of the game is going up for pre-order from Friday, July 10, which will ship January 2027. This is the first time it will be available physically, which is pleasing to hear after Sony brought down the hammer on physical discs last week.
What isn’t so pleasing is the price. You can download Silent Hill: The Short Message for free right now, but this deluxe edition will set you back a whopping $69.99 (£52).

This edition does come with some physical goodies, namely a set of art cards, an art poster of the monster, an acrylic keychain, and a certificate of authenticity, but it still doesn’t feel worth the asking price when the game itself is pretty rubbish and only two hours long.
Just for a comparison, £52 is £18 shy of a GTA 6 pre-order. Alternatively, you could pick up Astro Bot for the same price or, for £12 less, a physical copy of 2024’s Silent Hill 2.
The next major entry in the series is Silent Hill: Townfall, which, although you’d never really guess from the trailers, is set in Scotland (but then The Short Message is supposedly set in Germany, but you’d certainly never guess that from playing it). It’s due to launch for PlayStation 5 and PC on September 24, 2026.
Beyond that, developer Bloober Team is working on a remake of the original Silent Hill, but a release date is yet to be announced.
