The show followed a young couple who inherited an estate. They quickly learn, after a near-fatal accident, that one of them can see and interact with the spirits tied to the property. As they navigate their new life and relationship with the other realm, they form an alliance with the spirits of their new home. The unique and complex series was an instant hit. Several television studios around the world have introduced their own adaptations of the show. While the BBC One original has since ended its run, other versions are going strong. <p id=”par-2_59″>The United States was the first country to premiere an adaptation of the U.K. original. While the series followed the same basic premise as the original, the ghosts or spirits were updated to better fit the United States landscape. A Lanape spirit, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/ghosts-sucked-off-spirit-could-return.html/”>a hippie</a>, and a singer from the roaring 20s, for example, pull in characters with cultural significance.</p>

<p id=”par-3_50″>The series premiered in 2021 and was an instant hit for CBS. Now in its fifth season, fans will get a season six. It’s unclear how long after that the series will continue, though. CBS has not issued a statement on what is to come after the 2026 TV schedule.</p>
<h2 class=”wp-block-heading” id=”h-a-french-greek-and-german-versions-of-the-show-launched-earlier-this-year”>A French, Greek, and German versions of the show launched earlier this year</h2>
<p id=”par-4_68″>The U.S. version of <em>Ghosts</em> was the only adaptation for several years, but three more were added earlier this year. <em>Les Fantômes,</em> the French adaptation, premiered in 2025 and crafted new characters to fit the cultural needs of its viewers. A long-dead philosopher, a newly-dead DJ who died during a rave, and a silent film actress are three spirits who make the French version of the show unique.</p>
<p id=”par-5_41″>The German adaptation features a cast of characters including a monk, a punk, and an officer. The Greek adaptation also premiered in 2025. It is set in an affluent suburb in the Athens agglomeration. Nine spirits have been revealed thus far.</p>

Australia is the latest country to add its own version of the popular series to its lineup, bringing the total number of adaptations to six. The series has thus far received rave reviews from Australian viewers. Viewers from outside the country seeking adaptations of the U.K. original series love it, too.</p>

<p id=”par-7_56″>While production studios around the world have been hard at work creating <em>Ghosts </em>adaptations, the work isn’t done yet. A seventh version of the series is in the works for Spanish audiences. Back in 2024, Deadline confirmed that BBC Studios was working on multiple adaptations, including a Spanish-language version of the beloved show with <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/ghosts-hettys-cause-of-death-reveal-leaves-only-1-ghost-with-an-unknown-demise.html/”>all-new spirits.</a></p>
<p id=”par-8_66″>Still, there are no additional details on when viewers can expect the series or what type of spirits they’ll run into in it. The fact that four out of six adaptations premiered in the last several months suggests that interest in more is there. Whether a Spanish version will wait to premiere until some of the novelty of the existing shows settles down is anyone’s guess.</p>
