Abba star Björn Ulvaeus has shared that he was a little ‘troubled’ by the almost 30-year age gap between himself and his third wife Christina Sas.
The musician, 79, tied the knot with Christina, 51, last year after they began dating four months on from announcing his divorce from Lena Kallersjö.
The Waterloo hitmaker and the music journalist had been married for 41 years, sharing the news of their split in 2022.
Before this, Bjorn was married to his Abba bandmate Agnetha Fältskog from 1971 to 1979.
Opening up on the early days of his relationship with Christina, Björn shared that he worried how their 28-year age gap would affect their budding romance.
Despite saying their meeting was ‘love at first sight’, Björn admitted: ‘Immediately I had severe problems with myself and the age difference.’
‘When a man or a woman meets someone much younger and falls in love, they think, “Am I doing the right thing?”‘ He told The Times.
But soon, the Dancing Queen singer ‘just gave up’ on his worries and allowed himself to see where the relationship went.
‘I decided, “It’s up to her – if she wants to live with someone older and we love each other…” Age doesn’t come between us now – we rarely even talk about it,’ he explained.
According to The Sun, the pair met during the release of Abba Voyage in Germany, with Christina working for Abba’s label Universal there.
Their red carpet debut came just months after Björn and Lena announced their split in a joint statement, stating that they remained close friends.
‘After many fine and eventful years, we have decided to divorce,’ they said.
‘We remain close and good friends and will continue to celebrate our grandchildren’s birthdays and other family celebrations together.’
They later tied the knot in 1981 and share two children – Emma, 42, and Anna, 37.
Björn also has two children from his marriage to Agnetha, Linda, 50, and Peter, 46.
He previously said his time with Abba – which also includes former couple Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – shows that exes can work together.
Speaking to The Sun in 2019, Björn also explained that ‘coming together like that, for me at least, strengthens and solidifies and confirms our bond.’
Björn called the reunion proof of ‘two former married couples getting along very well.’
