Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit against her ex-tour manager in which the singer shockingly claims she conducted a ‘calculated blackmail campaign’.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles, alleges that Keren Urinov threatened to report the music artist to British authorities for drug trafficking unless she agreed to employ Urinov for 15 years and offer ‘massive compensation’.
She is suing Urinov for civil extortion, fraud and negligent misrepresentation, refusing to be ‘coerced into delivering her blackmailer an extraordinary payday’.
In the documents, she explained that she had been ‘reluctant’ to file but ultimately had ‘no choice but to sue’.
According to CBC, who have seen the lawsuit, she aims to ‘expose Urinov’s scheme and hold her accountable’ through this legal action.
Urinov was first hired as a temporary tour manager for the 00s singer’s world tour in 2025 after previously working for Live Nation.
In transit from the UK to Spain, the lawsuit claims a British Border Force official flagged a bag which Urinov declared was hers, and she was promptly arrested and issued a seizure notice after it was alleged to contain marijuana and xylazine.
It is said that she was released following questioning, after showing authorities her Israeli medical marijuana licence, but was detained again the next day regarding the bag.
The lawsuit claims that Urinov maintained the bag was hers throughout and it was only after the tour had finished that she allegedly started sending ‘a series of increasingly extortionate letters to Morissette’.
In the letters, she claimed she would sue her in the UK for ‘unspecified claims’ if Morrisette refused to take ownership of the drugs, according to the lawsuit.
However, she also laid out that the Jagged Little Pill star could ‘put an end to the matter’ by meeting her 15-year contract demands and offering annual increases and bonuses.
An additional request allegedly included was for Morrisette to arrange an immigration lawyer to get a work visa that would allow Urinov to work in the United States.
In the lawsuit, Morissette called out Urinov’s poor job as a tour manager in 2025, and added that it was an ‘astounding revelation’ when Urinov told her singer’s team she and her friend had been arrested in Latin America ‘years ago’ for smuggling drugs in a surfboard.
‘Morissette will not agree to work with an incompetent blackmailer for the next 15 years or pay her a ransom under the gun,’ the lawsuit reads.
She is seeking a jury trial and compensatory damages of over $75,000 (£55k).
In a statement to Page Six, Urinov’s attorney, Mark Lewis of Patron Law, said: ‘Keren Urinov is only aware that defensive proceedings in the US have been issued against her from contacts by the media. No proceedings have been served on her nor ever threatened.
His client ‘totally rejects any allegation of blackmail’.
‘Rather than being paid off, Ms Urinov has sought to have her name cleared and will adduce the evidence that shows the truth about Ms Morissette’s actions. Ms Urinov has no issue with the trial judge determining the truth.
‘We are content to let the Court determine what happened rather than trying to concoct a false narrative. Once the thread is unravelled, the cover-up will disappear and the attempt to blame someone else will evaporate,’ he said.
