
Alex Duong, a comedian and actor known for his appearances on “Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle” and “Blue Bloods,” has died after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 42. Duong was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer. His death was confirmed on March 28 following complications from the illness.

Duong documented parts of his journey on social media, including a final Instagram post on January 28 that reflected both the severity of his condition and his determination to recover. In the video, a friend explained that Duongâs health had recently declined.
âI just found out my boy Alex, heâs been battling eye cancers, quite a while ⦠and it was going good and he recently had a seizure. And the thing with the seizure, they found out he has something in his spine, man,â the friend said.
Duong responded in the comments with a message that has since resonated with fans and followers.
âðð I will walk out of here,â he wrote.
According to a GoFundMe update shared by his friend Hilarie Steele, Duong died after going into septic shock the day before. Steele confirmed he passed away âsurrounded by love and dear friends.â
âHe was comfortable and thankfully out of pain,â Steele wrote. âHe was alert enough to say goodbye to his little girl, whom he has treasured every moment since the day she was born.â
Steele added that Duongâs wife, Christina, and their 5-year-old daughter, Everest, were able to be with him in his final moments. âWe are devastated, but so grateful for the support, prayers and generosity you have all shown during this unimaginable time,â she wrote. âYour continued support now means everything as Christina and Everest navigate the days ahead and to arrange a beautiful celebration of his life.â
Duongâs Career, Comedy Work & Television Roles
Before his diagnosis, Duong had a busy year planned. According to Deadline, he was scheduled to perform in 41 states, including dates alongside “The Daily Show” correspondent Ronny Chieng.
Duong built a steady career in television and comedy. He was a member of SAG-AFTRA since 2009 and appeared in shows including “Dexter,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “90210,” “The Young and the Restless,” and “Pretty Little Liars.” He also contributed as a writer on Netflixâs “Historical Roasts.”
From 2021, Duong worked as a door guy at the Comedy Store while continuing to pursue stand-up comedy.
Reflecting on the support he received from fellow comedians during treatment, Duong told the Los Angeles Times, âComedians always have each otherâs backs when times are (expletive). We know how hard it is to pine and struggle and scrape by in this lifestyle, just so we can do these jokes and keep improving. Itâs a beautiful thing to see in this world; it really is.â
Duong also had a recurring role on “Blue Bloods,” where he worked with Donnie Wahlberg. According to the LAT, Wahlberg had encouraged him to prepare for an upcoming spinoff connected to the series.
Duong is survived by his wife and daughter. Details for a celebration of life are expected to be announced at a later date.
