Amazon Prime India faced intense backlash after posting a The Summer I Turned Pretty meme mocking an X user.
The company shared a post from Savannah Monroe ridiculing the size of her engagement ring with a meme from the hit teen drama.
‘Girl is there any chance your fiancé looks like this,’ the page posted alongside a picture of Jeremiah from the series proposing to Belly with a tiny engagement ring that was often mocked by fans.
In response, many social media users rushed to Savannah’s defense to chastise Amazon Prime India for sullying her special moment.
Monroe also weighed in on the post, snapping back: ‘When a huge streaming platform puts out a mean-spirited tweet about one of the happiest moments of your life for engagement, inviting harassment in droves.’
She went on to open up about the damage the post has caused, leading Monroe and her partner at the receiving end of harassment from other users.
‘Most of my posts don’t get more than twenty likes so one about a personal and special moment getting this much attention, a lot of it increasingly negative/judgmental, feels overwhelming,’ she wrote.
‘Consider that I’m a real person, I love my ring, and I’m very, very happy.”
‘My fiancé and I are not characters in a television show nor are we millionaires. Commenting on a ring size to an absolute stranger is anti-social behavior.’
In response, the official X account for Amazon Prime India deleted the post and issued an apology to the couple.
‘Our recent tweet caused hurt and that’s not okay,’ it began. ‘We’ve removed it and are taking steps to ensure our content reflects our values of inclusivity. We’ll do better from hereon.’
Many users felt more could be done, however, with some going as far as urging them to pay for their wedding.

‘A very public apology and some kind of reaching out + monetary compensation is the best option. Y’all got messy on her for no reason.’
Thisisptrying said: ‘So are y’all paying for this couple’s wedding or are you really just going to stick to this weak ass “apology” where you literally didn’t even say you are sorry.
Imalltoowell echoed the same sentiments, writing: ‘Cover her wedding cost that’s how you will do better.’
Goldero2209 added: ‘You knew exactly what you were doing. You would not have deleted or apologized if you were not called out everywhere. How about you buy her a rock-size ring, since that’s how you measure the worth of love.’
Holiday_hustle pointed out: ‘This isn’t even an apology. No “sorry” or “we apologize” anywhere. Real people’s big moments shouldn’t be your employee training.’
