Amy Schumer is opening up even more about how her health played a major role in her recent weight loss. On Monday, December 1, the comedian shared an Instagram Reel filmed by her 6-year-old son, Gene, whom she shares with her husband, Chris Fischer.
As per the now-deleted video, Schumer was lying in bed, and Gene then wandered through the house, giving viewers a brief tour.
Although the clip had a light, playful feel, Schumer added text to address questions she has received about her appearance and her changing body.
Schumer Shares a Candid Health Update in New Instagram Reel
Schumer began by addressing misinformation about cosmetic procedures and her weight. She wrote that she does not get Botox or filler and clarified that she did not lose 30 pounds but 50.
âNot to look hot, which does feel fun and temporary,â she wrote in a now-deleted reel, as reported by various outlets, including Independent. âI did it to survive.â
She then explained the medical issue behind the dramatic change in her appearance. âI had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you, but the internet caught it, and the disease has cleared,â she wrote, referring to her Cushing syndrome diagnosis.
Cushing syndrome develops when the body produces too much cortisol, the primary stress hormone. Symptoms can include weight gain around the midsection, a rounder face, high blood pressure, and increased stretch marks.

Schumer also responded to the reaction surrounding her transformation. âSorry for whatever feeling it’s giving you that I lost that weight,â she wrote. She added that she has had plastic surgery âover the yearsâ and uses Mounjaro. âSorry to anyone that lets down.â
She shared that she is now âpain-freeâ and able to âplay tagâ with Gene, something that had been difficult before her health improved.
Schumer also discussed her perimenopause, which she first revealed in February 2024, along with her endometriosis diagnosis.
âHappy to share if anyone has any questions about how I’m looking or feeling or where I am in my perimenopause process,â she wrote, as per Today.com.
Perimenopause is the transitional phase before menopause when estrogen begins to drop. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it can lead to symptoms such as hot flashes, irregular periods, and fatigue, and the process can last for years.
Schumer reminded fans that she has been open about her health journey for months. In October, she wrote on Instagram that she was âfeeling strongâ and starting to feel like herself again.
âIâm enjoying how I look, but man, it is all about how you feel,â she said at the time.
