Anne Hathaway is the kind of friend everyone hopes to have. Even with a packed schedule of red carpet appearances and film promotions, the Hollywood star still makes space for the moments that matter, showing up for the people around her when it counts most.
That warmth was on full display at a recent London screening of âMother Mary,â where Hathaway turned a small, unexpected situation into a quiet, thoughtful gesture of support for her co-star Michaela Coel.
âJust Need to Double-Checkâ: Michaela Coel Fixes Dress Behind Hathaway
In a video shared on social media, Coel was seen carefully adjusting the top of her Loewe gown, briefly reaching inside the dress to fix it.
As she made sure everything was in place, Hathaway stepped in without hesitation, gently moving closer and using the flowing bell sleeves of her Iris van Herpen couture gown to offer a bit of privacy.
âJust need to double-check that no accidents will happen,â Coel said while fixing her dress behind Hathaway.
The small moment spoke volumes about the ease and trust between the two, who later posed together for photos and shared a playful air kiss on the red carpet.
Their connection carries into âMother Mary,â where Hathaway plays a pop star who reconnects with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, portrayed by Coel, adding another layer of warmth to their on-screen dynamic.
Inside âMother Maryâ and the Inspiration Behind the Roles
Speaking about the film, Hathaway shared that she turned to real-life pop star Charli xcx for guidance as she prepared for the role, looking to better understand both the music and the lifestyle behind it.
âI wanted to talk to her about the music; she wrote such amazing music that I was going to perform,â Hathaway told People.
âBut I also just had a lot of questions for her about what her life was like, what the experience of being a pop star was.â
Coel, meanwhile, found her inspiration much closer to home, drawing from her own motherâs life and strength.
âMy mum was on my mind every single day of this shoot, my God,â Coel told People in another interview.
âI channeled my mom every single day. And it wasn’t just about being a seamstress, it was about the pain that she endured, raising children by herself, feeling completely deserted and alone, pining for the love of her ex-husband, my father.â
Together, their approaches brought a deeply personal layer to their performances, grounding the story in both lived experience and emotional truth.
Hathaway Makes Rare Comments on Husband Adam Shulmanâs Support: VIDEO
As Hathaway continues promoting âMother Mary,â her schedule remains full, with a stacked calendar full of releases including âThe Devil Wears Prada 2,â âVerity,â and âThe Odyssey.â Amid the busy stretch, she recently opened up about the steady support she receives at home from her husband, Adam Shulman.
Gushing over her husband, in rare comments, Hathaway told People,
âHe supports me completely. This year in particular was unusual. He and I both know that it’s probably never going to happen like this again. And the way he stepped up, I mean, in every possible way, he’s the most extraordinary person I’ve ever met.â
For fans, her quiet gesture on the red carpet with Coel reflected that same spirit of care, offering a simple but meaningful reminder of the connection and kindness that often exists behind the scenes.
