Ariana Grande is taking her hackers to court after years of music and footage allegedly being leaked.
The Thank U, Next singer has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles, which claims that anonymous hackers stole ‘part of her personal and professional creative process and that are not intended for public consumption.’
Leaks are not uncommon in the music industry but Ariana’s lawsuit claims she’s been hit with ‘hundreds’, including 45 songs in 2023 alone.
She alleges that her photographers and producers were targeted to gain access to materials, which were then sold on the ‘dark web’, according to Billboard.
Ariana accused the hackers, listed as John Doe, of violating the ‘sacred relationship that exists between her and her fans’.
‘Ms. Grande initiates this action to uncover the identities of these currently unknown and unscrupulous individuals in order to hold them accountable for their invasive and reprehensible conduct,’ her lawyers stated.
The lawsuit lists ‘hundreds’ of leaks since 2011, with ‘still-in-production, unreleased masters and demos and footage’ stolen in 2019.
Photos of Ariana which had not been released were also allegedly taken in phishing scams in two 2024 attacks.
That same year, she spoke about her leaked song Fantasize on the Zach Sang Show, telling the leakers ‘see you in jail’.
She said: ‘The few studio sessions that I did — which are all over TikTok, thank you so much. I’ll see you in jail, literally.
‘Those were all written for a TV show, for this thing that was not for me. So ‘Fantasize’ comes out — Comes out. Crazy. Was stolen — thieves, pirates, illegal. I’ll pay you more to put it away, to get it back.’
Despite her offers to pay up to get the documents back, Ariana has gone ahead with her legal pursuit
‘Neither Ms. Grande nor any other public or private figure should have to suffer such violations caused by these wrongdoers who hide in the shadows and wreak technological havoc with impunity,’ her attorneys wrote.
‘It is imperative to Ms. Grande to ensure on behalf of herself and others that such conduct is deterred to the fullest extent possible.’
Ariana is currently on her Eternal Sunshine world tour, which is set to reach London in August, after sold-out dates in the United States.
