Assassin’s Creed 4 remake finally confirmed by UK age rating board

Ubisoft still won’t admit it, but undeniable evidence of the Assassin’s Creed 4 remake has surfaced ahead of The Game Awards.

There has been chatter about a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag since at least 2023 and although rumours should often be taken with a grain of salt, it’s become increasingly hard to pretend that this remake isn’t happening.

Aside from several reports from reliable insiders, the voice actor behind protagonist Edward Kenway, Matt Ryan, bluntly teased the remake’s existence, which got him in trouble with Ubisoft’s lawyers.

Just last month, another report alleged that the remake is due to launch next March and now, thanks to the PEGI age ratings website, we have the most unambiguous evidence yet of its existence.

A listing for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced appeared on the official PEGI (Pan European Game Information) website, which provides age ratings for games in Europe.

The listing no longer appears but VGC grabbed a screenshot for posterity. Aside from the title, the only other info it provides is the 18 age rating (same as the original game) and that it will contain violence, bad language, and in-game purchases.

That said, the new subtitle of Resynced could lend credence to a rumour that the Black Flag remake will completely remove the, always unpopular, modern day sections and rework the game to be more akin to the modern role-playing game entries like Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Will the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake appear at The Game Awards 2025?

Given the timing and its purported March 2026 release date, it seems reasonable to assume Ubisoft is planning to share a proper announcement at The Game Awards 2025, which take place this Friday, December 12 at 12:30am GMT.

If they don’t, they may not have anything at the show at all, as while a new trailer for the Prince Of Persia remake was also speculated, Ubisoft has since ruled it out from making an appearance.

‘Sorry to disappoint, but can confirm Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time won’t be at The Game Awards this year,’ reads a post by the official Prince Of Persia X account.

Beyond that, Ubisoft does have a Splinter Cell remake that’s supposed to still be in development, plus Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, and the eternally absent Beyond Good & Evil 2. Not to mention the inevitable Far Cry 7 and its rumoured multiplayer spin-off.

There are also a couple more brand ndew Assassin’s Creed games on the way, such as the witch themed Assassin’s Creed Hexe. But since the last mainline entry, Shadows, only launched this year, it’s probably too soon to expect a successor.
