The battle royale mode for Battlefield 6 will launch alongside season one according to dataminers, as pressure mounts on Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7.
Battlefield 6 has already achieved record-breaking success for the series, with over seven million copies sold within its first week, but EA’s shooter is only getting started.
On Tuesday, October 28 the game’s first season starts, which adds new gadgets, maps, and some purposefully drab soldier skins (it’s what the fans want). After the relatively smooth launch, it’s the next test for Battlefield 6, to prove whether it can maintain its momentum.
Aside from season one however, Battlefield Studios may have a surprise up its sleeve for next week: namely, the game’s take on battle royale.
The battle royale mode, which EA has confirmed is on the way, was previously rumoured to be arriving on October 28, but more evidence has emerged which seems to reinforce that date.
This comes from Battlefield and Call Of Duty leaker ModernWarzone, who claims a datamine of the EA App has revealed that a ‘new content drop’ for Battlefield 6, unrelated to season one, is planned for October 28.
This unearthed content is codenamed Granite, as seen in a screenshot, which Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson has asserted is the codename for the battle royale. Along with being featured in Battlefield 6, it is expected to be a standalone free-to-play offering to rival Call Of Duty: Warzone.

Earlier today, Henderson corroborated the launch date. ‘I can now independently verify that Battlefield 6 Battle Royale is indeed planned to shadow drop on October 28,’ he wrote on X.
It’s still unclear what the battle royale mode will actually be called (BattleRoyale? Battlefield BR?), but the equivalent mode in Battlefield 5 was called Firestorm. However, a returning map in Battlefield 6 is already called Operation Firestorm, so it’ll likely be something different to avoid confusion.
EA teased the battle royale mode ahead of a playtest back in September: ‘We see a great opportunity to infuse the core Battlefield pillars of class-based squadplay, tactical destruction, and vehicle combat into the battle royale genre to create a high-stakes and adrenaline pumping gameplay experience.
‘This is Battlefield’s twist on the classic formula, so you can expect to find all of the core principles of Battlefield taking place within this mode; gadgets, explosives, destructible environments, and vehicles can all be used to secure the win.’
If the battle royale mode does release alongside season one, it will put additional pressure on Activision to deliver with Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, which is set to launch on November 14, 2025.
What is confirmed for Battlefield 6 Season 1?
Battlefield 6 season one will be released in three phases. On October 28, there’ll be a new Blackwell Fields map, alongside a new 4v4 Strikepoint mode, where two squads, with only one life, fight in multiple rounds to capture an objective.
Additionally, there’ll be a new APC Traverser Mark 2 land vehicle, a carbine rifle, sniper rifle, a sidearm, and rail cover and LPVO attachments.
The second phase drops on November 18, which adds a US-based Eastwood map and an 8v8 Sabotage mode. Battle pickups, aka special weapons with limited ammo, will also appear on certain maps. This will be complete with a new shotgun, sidearm, and slim handstop attachment.
Season one’s final phase launches on December 9, led by Ice Lock Empire State, a limited time winter rework of the Empire State map.
This will coincide with a limited time event called Ice Lock, centred around a Freeze modifier mechanic. An ice climbing axe will also be added as a melee weapon.
Battlefield 6 season one starts on October 28, 2025 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
