A former star of Baywatch, David Charvet, has been accused of striking and killing a dog with his car.
The hit-and-run incident is said to have taken place on Thursday morning in Los Angeles, in what authorities believe to have been an accident
The dog’s owner Vera Errico was walking her three dogs in a gated community in Malibu, when the actor, 53, hit one of the pups with his pick-up truck.
An investigation is now pending.
‘It sounds like it was accidental and that the dogs were off leash and ran into the roadway,’ the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department told People Magazine, adding: ‘[Charvet] tried to swerve to avoid hitting them.’
TMZ was the first to report, with Charvet offering the outlet a ‘no comment’ regarding the incident when contacted. Metro has also contacted the actor’s rep for comment.
Errico and her husband are said to have rushed their dog to the vet, where it had to be put down.
The publication has reported that the late dog was called Sunday and was an 11-year-old white English Labrador.
Per TMZ, Errico claimed that Charvet did not stop after the collision.
She also said that she and her husband filed a report with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Office regarding an alleged ‘hit and run’.
However, TMZ cited a law enforcement source who said the actor contacted the police after the incident happened, meaning that authorities do not consider the incident a hit-and-run even if he wasn’t directly on the scene.
A deputy has since visited the dog owner and her family to take a ‘traffic collision’ report, according to the outlet, and to confirm id the dog died and whether it was on a lead or not.
While Errico insists that it was, Charvet disputes this as he says he swerved to ‘avoid hitting the dog’.
Charvet rose to fame in the 1990s on the hit lifeguard show Baywatch, where he played high schooler Matt Brody. During the show’s heyday, the Frenchman dated co-star Pamela Anderson for two years.
After leaving the show in 1995, he went on to star in Melrose Place as Craig Field.
Metro has contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office and David Charvet’s representative for comment.
