Mollie King has revealed the reason behind her sudden absence from her BBC Radio 1 show after a scary moment where she ‘collapsed’ at home.
The Saturdays pop star, 39, co-hosts an afternoon slot alongside Matt Edmondson and has a Wednesday show called Future Pop.
However, after noticing she had been absent for two weeks, concerned fans checked in, prompting Mollie to release a statement.
Taking to Instagram, the presenter began: ‘Hi guys! So many of you have kindly messaged me over the past two weeks asking why I haven’t been on air – thank you so much for checking in!
‘After coming home late from work, I suddenly collapsed unconscious on the bathroom floor at 4am, hitting my head and face as I fell. It was a huge shock and I ended up being rushed to A&E.’
Mollie, who is engaged to England cricketer Stuart Broad and has two young children with him, added that she is ‘grateful’ that she wasn’t on her own, as her fiancé was there to ‘bring [her] round’.
She went on to thank the ‘absolutely incredible’ staff at St George’s Hospital who ‘stitched [her] up’, joking that she needs to ‘buy new pyjamas’ after being admitted wearing a Looney Tunes top.
While Mollie did not share what could have caused her to collapse, she did say: ‘It’s been a real wake-up call that I need to make some time to get my strength back, not just for my own health, but so I can be the best version of myself for my family too.’
Sharing the post on Monday morning, she said yesterday was her ‘first day doing anything social’, adding a photo of herself cradling her daughter while watching Stuart presenting on Sky Sports.
‘After what has felt like a very long two weeks, it was amazing to get out and spend time with my girls. We even had the surprise of spotting Daddy on a big screen, which made us all smile,’ she said.
Mollie concluded by saying the kindness of her followers has ‘meant so much’ and that she ‘can’t wait’ to return to the airwaves today with Matt.
The comments quickly filled with well-wishes, as the likes of Vick Hope, bandmate Rochelle Humes, Melvin Odoom, and Jamie Laing sent love.
‘We’ve missed you! ❤️’, wrote co-host Matt.
Mollie has also been quiet on social media over the past couple of weeks, her last post being three days ago when she marked her birthday.
Her caption read: ‘Another trip around the sun ☀️🎂
‘Looking back through these photos, I’m so grateful for the laughs, the memories, the amazing people in my life, and most of all, the special moments with my gorgeous family 💕
‘Excited to see what this next year has in store ✨’
Her last big work commitment before her accident was Radio 1’s Big Weekend at the end of May, where she interviewed stars like Niall Horan and Ellie Goulding in Sunderland.
Having risen to fame as part of a girl group in the late 2000s, releasing tunes like Up, Ego, and What About Us, Mollie ventured into broadcasting after The Sats announced an indefinite hiatus in 2014 after a brief solo music career.
Online, she frequently shares snapshots of her home life with Stuart, 39, to whom she got engaged in January 2021, and their two daughters.
Their eldest daughter, Annabella, arrived in November 2022, with Mollie booking a C-section so her own father could meet his grandchild before he died from a brain tumour, with which he was diagnosed just three months earlier.
He met her only once before his death 10 days later, after which Mollie said she was ‘utterly heartbroken’, particularly as there were ‘no signs’ that her father was unwell, making the whole thing so shocking at what was meant to be a ‘magical time’.
Mollie then gave birth to her second child, Liliana, in January last year, writing at the time that she and Stuart were ‘bursting with happiness’.
The pop star and cricket commentator began dating in 2012, but they split after less than a year together.
In 2019, they rekindled their relationship and have been going strong ever since.
Despite being engaged to Stuart for five years now, though, Mollie recently shared that she ‘can’t bear to think about’ getting married still, knowing her late dad won’t be there for her special day.
‘I can’t bear to think about my wedding without Dad being there,’ she told The Times in March. ‘Elements like walking down the aisle without him, I still struggle with. There needs to be a gap so I can process it all.’
‘We do need to get married – it’s high up my priorities list,’ she added. ‘We want to do it soon, but it can take a while to prepare. I’ve dreamt of my wedding day since I was five.’
