An Irish crime drama that premiered on BBC this week has been praised by viewers who have labelled it ‘superb’.
The six-part series Crá kicks off when Garda Barry Roche (Alex Murphy) finds a body buried in the bog in a small town in Donegal.
The case turns out to hit close to home after Garda Conall Ó Súilleabháin (Dónall Ó Héalai) discovers it is his mother, Sabine, who went missing 15 years earlier.
Although Conall is blocked from being part of the investigation, he finds himself drawn in by determined young journalist Ciara-Kate (Hannah Brady), who aims to expose the village’s dark secrets through her true-crime podcast.
As the investigation progresses, each twist and turn gets broadcast to the podcast’s rapidly growing audience.
But as the pair get closer to discovering what really happened, they face a close-knit community ‘bound by silence and its own moral codes’ and an uphill battle to ensure the truth is exposed.

The Irish-language series also stars including Barry McGovern (Obituary), Róisín Murphy (Vikings), Tara Breathnach (Borderline, Dune2), Caoimhe Farren (The Woman in the Wall), and Alan Mahon (King Frankie).
‘We just watched the first two episodes of the brilliant new Irish-language drama #CRÁ produced by Ciaran Charles and set in beautiful Donegal. We would highly recommend it. Looking forward to seeing what happens next. Congrats to all involved,’ Vince posted on X.
‘Watching Irish crime drama Crá on iPlayer and enjoying it. Atmospheric. Varied and different soundtrack. Donegal at its most scenic. Six- part series. Gets my thumbs up,’ Vernon shared.
‘Have binged watched the series on BBC iPlayer brilliant show with twists and turns,’ Una added.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph ahead of the show’s premiere, Alex admitted he wasn’t actually fluent in Irish.
‘I really enjoyed the script. And then to jump at the opportunity to work in Irish was quite scary, but exciting, because I was by no means fluent,’ he told the Belfast Telegraph.
‘The show is its own show, and it happens to be in Irish. It’s not about Irishness, diddly-eye, you know.
‘There’s no particular message, in that regard, with regards to the language. It’s an enjoyable crime drama that happens to be in Irish.’
Crá is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
