Bella Thorne has found herself at the centre of a debate online after choosing to propose to her fiancé, Mark Emms.

The only catch is that producer Emms already proposed to the Disney star, 27, back in 2023.

Sharing the sweet moment on her Instagram page, Thorne got down on one knee to mark the one-year anniversary of the couple getting engaged, much to Emms’ surprise.

Surrounded by candles and rose petals, Thorne got down on one knee while Emms appeared bewildered and delighted, later posing among a room of red heart-shaped balloons to celebrate.

The Shake It Up star wrote in the caption: ‘3 years ago we met, 1 year later he proposed, now 1 year later so did I 🥴❤️.’

However, some fans said she should not ‘normalise this’ and questioned why she proposed after her partner already had.

‘If he already proposed why did you do it lol I’m confused,’ cbadavis wrote on Instagram.

‘This one shoulda stayed in the gallery sis,’ x_daniella_x added, while Kgrisss went as far as to say they would ‘rather swallow glass.’

‘I’d rather have my nails ripped off with a tenacity before I do that,’ aylen_szecsi boldly claimed.

Others said the backlash was ‘ridiculous’ and deemed the gesture ‘romantic.’

‘Comments failed. girl power i love you for this,’ Anisacaroj commented.

Tyna_pav pointed out: ‘What the hell is wrong with proposing both sides? This is toxic femininity ladies.’

‘I don’t understand why everyone’s hating. It’s cute 😭,’ K.heller_ added.

‘Men also deserve to be loved, they also deserve details and to be surprised. It’s already a solid relationship, therefore it’s a mutual conquest, and that’s it! 👏’ Daniidg93 wrote.

Thorne later took to her Instagram Stories to address the wild debate, writing: ‘The comments on my post are hilarious!!.

‘Totally split down the middle. Half of u are like let’s not normalize proposing to your partner — other half is like f*** yeah girl power this is the sweetest!!’

Thorne and Emms met in 2022 at Cara Delevingne’s birthday party, dating soon after and announcing their engagement in 2023.

Blended star Thorne was previously engaged to her Time Is Up co-star Benhamin Mascolo, who popped the question in 2021. They split a year later.
