Beloved British actor William Edward Rush—who starred in “Coronation Street” before auditioning for “X Factor”— passed away at age 31, his mom confirmed via social media on Thursday, December 18.

“Our beautiful baby boy, William, passed away on 17th December. As a family, our hearts are completely broken, and there are no words that can truly capture the depth of our loss,” Rush’s mom, Debbie Rush, shared in a touching Instagram post. “Even in our darkest moment, William gave the most precious gift of all. Through being an organ donor, he has given hope and life to other families, thinking of others right to the very end. His kindness and love will forever be part of his legacy.”

Debbie asked for privacy “as [they] navigate this unimaginable grief.”

“William will always be loved, always missed, and forever in our hearts,” she concluded.

‘Coronation Street’ Star William Rush Had a Storied Career

William was born in Bury, Greater Manchester, England, in July 1994. His mother is also an actress, best known for her role as Anna Windass in the ITV soap opera “Coronation Street,” which she appeared in from 2008 to 2018.

The younger Rush followed in his mother’s footsteps, beginning his career in Channel 4’s “Shameless,” before landing roles in BBC’s “Grange Hill,” “The Street,” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous.”

Rush is perhaps best known for his role as Josh Stevenson in “Waterloo Road,” which he starred in from 2009 to 2012. He later auditioned for season 13 of “The X Factor,” where he played guitar during his performance for judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh.
