Beloved Chimpanzee Expert Passes Away at 91: Tributes Pour In

Jane Goodall, a renowned conservationist and animal advocate, has passed away at the age of 91. A statement was posted on Wednesday, Oct. 1, revealing that she died of natural causes while on her speaking tour in California.

Goodall was famous for her work studying chimpanzees, specifically having spent time in Tanzania’s Gombe Stream Chimpanzee Reserve in 1960. She began her research at the age of 26, and after observing their behavior, Goodall came to realize that chimpanzees showed similar behaviors to humans.

“Their behavior, with their gestures, kissing, embracing, holding hands and patting on the back,” she said in an interview with ABC News in 2020.. “…The fact that they can actually be violent and brutal and have a kind of war, but also loving an altruistic.”

“The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes. She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States,” the statement said.

“Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.”
