Actor Ben Affleck will be the first to tell you: even movie stars can embarrass their kids!
Affleck and co-star Jon Bernthal stopped by the “Today Show” Tuesday, April 22 to promote their new movie, âThe Accountant 2.â
Toward the end of the interview, host Savannah Guthrie mentioned to Ben, âI was reminded this morning that you are fluent in Spanish, and I just wanna say that that is really awesome.â
Affleck, amused, admitted that his language skills are a point of contention at home, saying, “My daughter is a student of Spanish and often competes with me. She will tell me that hers is better than mine.â He then looked at the camera and said, âAnd Iâm glad that I get the chance to be on national television and just claim victory. Sheâll be appalled, by the way.â
In 2020, Affleck told Kelly Clarkson that he learned Spanish when he was 13, shooting a kids’ television show.
Affleck Teaches Son Sam a Lesson About the Value of Money
But that wasn’t Ben Affleck’s only reference to his children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
Affleck and Garner share three children- Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16 and Samuel, 13.
Affleck and his “The Accountant 2” and co-star Jon Bernthal made a second appearance, this time on “Today with Jenna & Friends” talking to both Jenna Bush Hager and guest co-host Andy Cohen.
Andy asked Ben about a clip that went viral of Affleck and his son Sam looking at a pair of $6,000 sneakers.
In that video, 13-year-old Samuel showed interest in buying the Dior Air Jordan 1s at a sneaker convention, to which Affleck quipped, âThatâs a lot of lawns you gotta mow there.â
Cohen asked Affleck about that teachable moment. To which Affleck replied, laughing, âHe goes, âWe have the money.â I was like, âIÂ have the money. Youâre broke!â What are you gonna do, you gonna mow lawns? I don’t see you lending me $5,000. Listen, you love your kids â you want to give them everything and do everything for them, but I do think you do them a disservice by, like, not connecting, you want something meaningful that you want, you have to work for that.”
Affleck went on to say that his two daughters both have jobs now. Violet is a freshman at Yale working on securing a summer internship. And Seraphina, who goes by “Fin,” has âa kind of classic, you know, teenager working in a shop jobâ according to Affleck.
Ben Affleck Jokes That Co-Star Makes Him ‘Better’
“The Accountant 2” reunites Ben Affleck with Jon Bernthal. The pair co-starred in the original “The Accountant” movie in 2016, playing brothers.
On “The Today Show,” when speaking of reuniting with Affleck after nine years, Bernthal said, “The best thing about this business is the folks you meet along the way. And I really gained a true friend that I really love. You know, it’s somebody that I admire and really look up to. And I’m proud to call him a friend.”
To which Affleck replied, “What a sweetheart. How do you not love this guy? He’s the best guy. I’m like, shallow and he’s such a good man. You can see why I was drawn to him. Like, you can make me better.”
“The Accountant 2” hits theaters Friday, April 25.
