’Bewitched’ Actor Erin Murphy Celebrates Show’s 60th Anniversary

Baby Tabitha is all grown up. Erin Murphy, who played the daughter of Darrin and <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/bewitched-star-elizabeth-montgomery-big-part-naming-samantha-stephens.html/”>Samantha Stephens on Bewitched,</a> recently took to social media to celebrate the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/sitcom/?swcfpc=1″>sitcom</a>’s 60th anniversary.

“Want to feel old?” Murphy wrote on <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DABNbJmJ_K7/?hl=en” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram</a>. “Bewitched premiered 60 years ago today, September 17, 1964. AND little Tabitha (Me!) is 60 years old!” She also included a photo of herself as a little girl in the post.

Murphy played budding witch Tabitha on Bewitched for six years, starting in 1966, when she was two years old. Her fraternal twin sister Diane Murphy also played Tabitha for a time.

In an interview with <a href=”https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/bewitched-actress-erin-murphy-says-she-other-former-child-stars-part-secret-group” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Fox News</a>, Murphy said it was hard to believe that it had been six decades since Bewitched premiered. “[B]ecause that means I’m going to be 60 this year, too, and that’s impossible!” she said.

Though it’s been more than half a century since TV viewers met Samantha, Darrin, and their daughter, the show has stood the test of time.

“I think one of the reasons this show is still so popular is that it kind of appeals to everyone,” she said. “Everybody wishes they could do magic. Everybody, you know, likes the fantasy element of it. Plus, it was really well done. So I think because it was well-written and well-acted and well-directed, it’s held up surprisingly well over the years.”

Not every former child star looks back on days on set with fondness. But that’s not the case with Murphy. She’s said she feels “lucky” to have been <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/bewitched-original-series-cursed.html/”>part of Bewitched</a>.

“It was a great show … It was fun. And even though I was the only kid for most of the show, all the adults were wonderful to me,” she told <a href=”https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/video/former-child-actress-erin-murphy-talks-about-bewitched-and-beyond/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>KCAL News</a> in 2023.

Murphy still has a close bond with people she met through the show.

“<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/bewitched-elizabeth-montgomery-was-hiding-a-big-secret-in-season-1.html/”>Elizabeth Montgomery [who played Samantha]</a> was kind of like a mom to me,” she said. “And as an adult, I’m still very good friends with her children.”

After Bewitched ended in 1972, Murphy continued to act on TV and in commercials. Though she stepped away from Hollywood for a time, in recent years she’s had acting roles in shows like The Comeback Kids and Life Interrupted, appeared on the game show To Tell the Truth, and competed on Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling. And she has no intention of slowing down.

“I don’t even know what retire means. As far as acting goes, people act until they’re dead,” she said with a laugh. “I love acting. And I’ve always loved it. So I want to work as long as I can.”
