Comedian Bill Hader is opening up about the role his girlfriend, Ali Wong, played in supporting him after devastating wildfires impacted his Los Angeles home in January.
During a recent appearance on SiriusXMâs âConan OâBrien Needs a Friendâ, Hader revealed that his home was damaged during the Palisades wildfires while he was filming a Volkswagen commercial in Malibu alongside former âSaturday Night Liveâ co-stars Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen.
âThereâs just devastation all around. It was no good. I was just in total shock,â Hader said on the podcast. He described how he returned to his neighborhood with a news crew to assess the damage. âI went up with a news crew and I go, ‘Do you guys want to interview me in front of my house?’ That was the only way I could get up there,” he recalled. “So I went up to my house and I was like, oh wow, it’s not too bad. And then I stepped in and it was like dust, toxic stuff everywhere.”
Hader, who was seen speaking with KTLA about the fire’s impact at the time, said he lost a significant amount of belongings, including most of his wardrobe.
How Ali Wong Helped Bill Hader After the Wildfire
Following the wildfire damage, Hader shared that Ali Wong stepped in to help him replace clothing and other lost belongings. During the interview, Hader explained that he does not enjoy shopping or consider himself fashion-savvy, making Wongâs support especially meaningful.
âAli and I went today to just literally I had to shop for clothes,â he said. âIt was very sweet. It meant a lot to me. Itâs because Iâm just wearing Uniqlo sweats, you know, and my kids are like, youâre living in your pajamas, I feel like theyâre very worried. And I told her about that and she was like, let me take you to get some clothes. So that was, so those are the moments.â
Hader noted that he leans on Wongâs sense of style and expressed appreciation for her help throughout the recovery process.
Inside Hader and Wongâs Relationship
Hader and Wongâs relationship first began quietly in late 2022 after they each ended previous relationships. Although they briefly split a few months later, the couple rekindled their romance in early 2023.
In April 2023, Hader confirmed he was dating someone, and outlets including Page Six later reported that he and Wong had reunited. Over the next year, they were occasionally spotted together around Los Angeles, but the pair largely kept their relationship private.
As of 2025, the couple remains together, continuing to prioritize privacy while occasionally opening up about the support and care they share behind the scenes.
