Billie Eilish has revealed the surprisingly effective strategy she’s using to keep her next album under wraps: keeping the secret from herself.

The 24-year-old superstar opened up exclusively to Metro while promoting her new 3D concert film directed by none other than James Cameron.

The film captures performances from Eilish’s mammoth Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, filmed during her run at Manchester’s Co-op Live last year, and promises fans an innovative, immersive live concert experience packed with both her biggest hits and tracks from her 2024 album.

But naturally, never satisfied when it comes to Billie, the question on every fan’s mind is what comes next, especially after she recently told Complex that a new album is in the works.

According to the Bad Guy singer, your guess is as good as hers.

Asked how she’s managing to keep her upcoming fourth album such a tightly guarded secret, the superstar burst out laughing.

‘Well… I have no idea,’ she admitted. ‘I’m just excited because it’s coming along, but it is nowhere near finished, just so everyone knows.’

While fans have already started dissecting every vague studio hint and Instagram breadcrumb for clues about the next era, Eilish insisted she genuinely doesn’t yet know what shape the project will take.

‘I think part of keeping this one a secret is I don’t even know yet,’ she explained. ‘I’m keeping this secret from myself.’

She continued, explaining: ‘People are like, “What’s the name?” No clue. “What’s the vibe?” No clue. We’re gonna find out. And that’s a really exciting place to be in.’

Fans hoping her latest promo run secretly marks the start of a new album campaign, however, may need to sit down.

‘It’s gonna be a while still because I got a lot to do before then,’ she warned. ‘But don’t worry. It will come.’

Considering Eilish’s last era became a global phenomenon — with her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour spanning 106 dates, selling more than 1.5million tickets and grossing over $220million (£162m) — fans can be sure it will be worth the wait.

Meanwhile, Cameron (who elsewhere in the interview named the top three films he’s directed) appeared utterly smitten while working with the singer, saying she exceeded every expectation he had going into the collaboration.

‘By miles,’ the 71-year-old filmmaker said when asked whether Eilish had surprised him.

Initially, he said, he simply found her ‘very natural, very comfortable in your skin, very authentic,’ but as filming continued he began to realise ‘what a really, really particular and specific artist and visionary’ she is.

Now proudly referring to her as his ‘pal’, Cameron went even further, describing Eilish as ‘basically a demigoddess to so many people on this planet.’

Despite a decade of relentless scrutiny, fame, trolling and online obsession since breaking through with Ocean Eyes at just 13 years old, Cameron said he remains stunned by how grounded she is.

‘You are surprisingly sane,’ he told her, adding that she is ‘not a diva at all’ despite his self-described ‘real diva meter.’

Eilish dryly agreed: ‘It’s hard to stay sane out here. I try.’

Between secret albums she hasn’t figured out yet, global tours grossing hundreds of millions, and being called a ‘demigoddess’ by the director of Titanic and Avatar, she’s probably handling it better than most of us would.
